Social Studies Curriculum

The Louisiana Department of Education social studies standards deliniate what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level. Teachers use the standards and coordinated high-quality materials to plan and implement lessons. The ulimate goal of social studies instruction is to nuture students to read, listen and observe, and communicate (oral and written) to become critical consumers of information.  In addition, students are expected to use primary and secondary sources regularly; “make connections among people, events, and ideas across time and place; and express informed opinions using evidence from sources and outside knowledge” (LDOE, 2020).

Throughout the school year, teachers have access to professional learning sessions, which prepares them to focus on the content and build effective learning experiences for students. The expertise of district personnel and District Content Leaders aligns with the vision and mission of the Teaching and Learning Department to equip and empower Caddo Parish Public Schools’ educators with knowledge, skills and resources necessary to teach the right thing in the right way to achieve desired results.
